Nutrition & Complementary Therapies
Nutrition & Therapy For Fertility
Aurora takes a holistic approach to fertility, starting with the general health and well-being of our clients. We are delighted to offer the choice of three complementary therapies for the overall wellness of our clients: Nutritional therapy, Reflexology and Acupuncture.
Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional therapy uses appropriate diets to balance the body and prevent disease.
We discuss your diet, drinking habits, smoking, and exercise patterns, as well as the medical, psychological and medication histories of you and your partner. The therapist may perform tests on hair, urine, sweat and muscles before the formulation of a nutritional plan that includes vitamins and mineral supplements.
Good nutrition can improve adverse symptoms of rheumatism, arthritis, high blood pressure, fatigue, constipation, psychological disorders, neuralgia, osteoporosis, pre-menstrual tension, stress and viral illnesses. Fertility nutritional therapy is used for both partners to optimise their fertility and prepare their bodies for the sometimes demanding treatments which may lie ahead.
Virtually anyone. We particularly encourage fertility nutritional therapy for couples who are struggling with unexplained infertility as sometimes small changes can make a significant difference.
You’re advised to discuss any possible interactions with any medicines you are taking before embarking on therapy.

Reflexology
Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure to reflex points on the feet and aims to eliminate energy blockages to restore the balance of vital energies in the body.
In doing so, reflexology is used to prevent and treat many ailments. First, we discuss your medical history, lifestyle, exercise routines and diet. The therapist applies pressure with the thumbs and other fingers to each foot, paying attention to any problem areas. These are indicated by hot or cold, pain or crystalline deposits under the skin. Sessions last up to one hour. Maps of the feet are also available, making self-help treatment and maintenance easy.
It is used to relieve muscular aches and pains, menstrual irregularities, stress, fatigue, migraine, and intestinal problems. Reflexology is also gaining prominence within the fertility treatment field.
It is not suitable for people with severe fungal or viral infections of the feet or other infectious diseases. It is also not considered suitable in the early stages of pregnancy or for people with hormonal or circulatory problems, or diabetes.
Reflexology can trigger flu-like symptoms, headaches and tiredness. We recommend that clients drink plenty of fluid and avoid alcohol and tobacco products for about 24 hours after treatment sessions. It is best to consider reflexology as an additional option to medical care and use it accordingly.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the stimulation of particular points on the body by insertion of fine needles.
The ancient Chinese practice dates back many centuries (1600BC), based on the principles that the workings of the human body are controlled by a vital force or energy called “Qi” (pronounced “chee”) that flows through the body along a system of channels called “meridians”. Alongside traditional acupuncture, a Western concept of acupuncture has developed whereby acupuncture points are not only identified by their location but also by “trigger points”. These are areas of increased sensitivity within a muscle, which cause a specific pattern of pain in a different area of the body when stimulated. For example, a trigger point at the base of the neck relates directly to particular types of headache.
Specifically-designed acupuncture needles are inserted through the skin at selected points to depths ranging from a few millimetres to a few centimetres. Anything from one to more than a dozen of these needles may be inserted and left in place, for anything from a few seconds to up to thirty minutes (depending on the ailment the therapist is treating). During that time, the needles are usually ‘stimulated’ by the therapist twisting them round manually. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and do not hurt when inserted. Stimulation of these needles can produce a variety of sensations, including heaviness, soreness, warmth and numbness.
Acupuncture has been recognised by the World Health Organisation as a valid treatment for many disorders: back pain, neuralgia, arthritis, tension headaches and migraines, asthma, hay fever, digestive disorders, painful periods and pre-menstrual syndrome, anxiety, fatigue, treating the common cold, obesity and is particularly useful for post-operative pain. Specialist may recommend acupunture for fertility where a hormone imbalance is present or in women presenting with polycystic ovary syndrome, or simply to combat stress, alongside traditional Western medicine. Acupuncture is gaining prominence within the fertility treatment field.
The only age limitation relates to children who are too young to co-operate with the therapist. Although acupuncture for fertility is a growing field, a therapist may not offer acupuncture to pregnant women, except perhaps in treating severe pregnancy sickness. People with abnormal or artificial heart valves need to consult their doctors before acupuncture. People on anticoagulant therapy may experience bruising where needles are inserted.
Acupuncture is very safe if performed by a properly trained practitioner. The risk of infection is virtually eliminated by the use of sterile disposable needles that are supplied in sealed containers. There have been rare cases of punctured lungs when needles have been inserted too deeply into the chest wall and rare reports of infection of heart valves (endocarditis) occurring in people with diseased heart valves.
